In January 2012, Amanda Bright interviewed young singer who goes by the name, Amor-ah Jackson! Amor-ah is a Minnesota bound artist. She has many of things going for 2012, make sure to check her out!
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born in Minneapolis, MN, but, raised in Saint Paul.
Q: How old were you when you first started singing?
A: I was 3 years old when I started singing. My Mom was in a choir and I went to rehearsals with her everyday. I thought I was apart of the Choir too…
Q: When did you start singing professionally?
A: I started to pursue my dreams in 2005.
Q: How did you know you wanted to be a singer?
A: I knew because music made me happy & as a kid, I noticed the power behind music. Just with the creation of a song you can brighten someone’s day, help them through tough times, encourage them & motivate them. I wanted to have that power, the power and ability to change peoples lives like music has mine.
Q: Who inspired you to sing at such a young age, why?
A: My mother and father. Any young girl wants to be like her mother and I definitely looked up to my mom. Watching her sing in choir only made me want to do it more. I wanted to be just like her. My father inspired me, the way he captivated the crowd when he was on stage. My father wasn’t around that often so, this gave me a way to stay close and connected with him. He inspired me to write beautiful songs at the age of 9. Music was a special bond that I shared with him, I wanted to always make him proud.
Q: Who do you look up to today in the music industry, why?
A: Beyonce, because she has crossed so many barriers that a lot of female singers have not. She will continue to be legendary in everything she does, I believe. She stayed true to herself and wrote music that she loved & she’s always thinking of the “Next Big Thing”. Creatively she’s a GENIUS!!
Q: What type of music do you consider yourself?
A: R & B. I just recently decided to change it up a bit with this Album and did mainly Pop! This was My first time recording Pop songs for this Album.
Q: Do you have a musical family?
A: Yes, everyone of my brothers & sisters are talented in some way, shape or form. They can either sing, rap, dance, produce, play instruments, write poetry, etc…
Q: Why did you choose the name AMOR-AH! I also heard you had to switch your name, why?
A: Originally I didn’t have a name so I used My Last Name: “Miss Jackson”. Later in My career I was told by my label to pick a name that would represent me. My father & I brainstormed and decided to use my middle name “Amora”.
Q: Have you done any shows yet? If yes, where?
A: Yes, I have performed many places, most recently, Envy Nightclub and at the A-List Showcase. This year I plan on doing a few more shows before I hit the road.
Q: What was your favorite venue to preform at and why?
A: My most memorable experience performing was at Rhondo Days in 2006. Every year as a child I would go there to see my father & his band perform. I told myself that one day it would be me up there, he’d be coming to see. It was very sentimental to me and I even told the crowd about the story. A very special moment for me and my family that were there!
Q: If you could preform anywhere in the world, where would it be?
A: At the BET Awards Show. That would be a DREAM come true!
Q: What type of feelings do you get up on stage?
A: I get anxious and excited. When I’m on stage I’m so in-tune with the songs and with what I’m doing. I don’t worry about anything else ever. I just want to see the crowd’s reaction, I want to see them engaging in my music.
Q: Do you see this as a steady career as you age?
A: Currently I do. Right now London, England really loves the new pop album I’m releasing and sometime this year I would like to start a tour, to professionally perform and receive incentive for my talent. I’ve invested a lot of money, time and energy into making my dreams come true. There comes a time where you have to decide if this is something you can make a living doing and I believe that it is!!
Q: What are your goals for 2012?
A: To tour, release my pop album “Break’N’Bridges” and start my next project, which will be a R&B album.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
A: In ten years, I will be branded. Financially capable of continuing my dreams and having experience traveling and performing around the Globe…
Q: Do you have any other hobbies besides singing?
A: I have other talents such as, drawing. I’ve been designing My own T-shirts and would love to branch into doing a clothing line.
Q: You have such an amazing voice, do you take vocal lessons?
A: Thank you so much and yes I’ve had vocal training in the past!
